A people made homeless (1950)

There is an astonishing amount of ignorance about the basic facts of the so-called Arab-Israeli conflict.

This footage was shot in the late 1940s to educate the public about the plight of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who had been made homeless as a result of the violence and intimidation that accompanied the founding of the state of Israel.

What most Palestinians thought would be a temporary dislocation lasting only a few weeks at most became permanent. Homeless with just the clothes on their backs, they were left in the desert without food, water, and medical care to die.

60 years of dispossession
Nakba 60

Nakba 60 / Uruknet

This year Israel celebrates its 60th birthday. Yet for Palestinians and for people of conscience this is not an occasion to celebrate.

The establishment of the State of Israel involved the destruction of over 530 Palestinian towns and villages and the expulsion of about two-thirds of the indigenous Palestinian Arab population from their homes and lands to pave the way for the establishment of a Jewish State, with a Jewish majority. Contrary to Israeli claims that they declared statehood in response to an Arab war against them, in actual fact, Zionist leaders launched a campaign of ethnic cleansing against the largely defenseless Palestinian population in April of 1948.

In the US and Britain, there is a campaign to smear anybody who tries to describe the plight of the Palestinian people. It is an attempt to intimidate and silence ? and to a large degree, it works. There is nobody these self-appointed spokesmen for Israel will not attack as anti-Jewish: liberal Jews, rabbis, even Holocaust survivors.

My own case isn't especially important, but it illustrates how the wider process of intimidation works. I have worked undercover at both the Finsbury Park mosque and among neo-Nazi Holocaust deniers to expose the Jew-hatred there; when I went on the Islam Channel to challenge the anti-Semitism of Islamists, I received a rash of death threats calling me "a Jew-lover", "a Zionist-homo pig" and more. Ah, but wait. I have also reported from Gaza and the West Bank.

"It was a happy moment when I heard the news that UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) launched in coordination with Google Earth, a new layer that focus on refugee camps around the world. This should be a great tool to follow the crisis of Palestinian refugees under occupation and expose it to the world through one of the most used Web 2.0 applications (Google Earth claims to have more than 350 million downloads and counting).

"... However, my happiness did not last for long when I discovered that NONE of the Palestinian refugee camps within the Occupied Palestinian Territories are published there (see map below). So, even if you 'Sit in front of your computer', with a few clicks you can 'see, hear and develop an emotional understanding of what it is like to be a refugee', but not the Palestinian refugees' experience. They don't exist!

"... It is disturbing to see such a horrible mistake (intentional or unintentional, we need to know) spread by a UN agency which claims to be taking care of refugees all around the world. The UNRWA lists the name of all the refugees camps in West Bank (19 camp) and Gaza (8 camps) and their population (West Bank 486,479, Gaza 478,272, total 964,751). Not only that, but they also have location maps for these refugees camps on their website ...

"The question is, how can UNHCR ignored a total of 27 Palestinian refugee camps in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, populated with almost one million inhabitants?

"... This is not acceptable."

This is a Ron Paul board. If you want to make policy, consult the campaign. What about African Americans and American Indians right here in the US who were driven off their land and enslaved. You are obsessed with Anti-Zionism. Your goal is to attach it to the Ron Paul campaign. I can't hear one word from people such as yourselves, about giving reparations to Americans who were wronged. No, you would be against that because our problems here with minority groups were settled years ago. Oh, I understand perfectly now!! American is perfect, it's just those Israelis who are mistreating the Palestinians. Americans never mistreated any Blacks or American Indians. All land and property in the US was properly obtained and never seized at the point of a gun from the rightful owners.

"... those Israelis who are mistreating the Palestinians."
-- Andrew Panken --

I agree with Andrew that the Israelis are mistreating the Palestinians.

"... Americans never mistreated ... American Indians. All land and property in the US was properly obtained and never seized at the point of a gun from the rightful owners.
-- Andrew Panken --

This is Andrew's justification for allowing Israel to conduct genocide upon the Palestinian people during our watch. We were not here to prevent the slaughter of the native American Indians. That was another generation's watch. We are here, however, to make sure we, the American People, do not participate in, support or condone the genocide of the Palestinian people. We withdraw our financial, political and military support from those who would conduct genocide today - on our watch.

"... I can't hear one word from people such as yourselves, about giving reparations to Americans who were wronged."
-- Andrew Panken --

Some people have a religious or philosophical obsession regarding the sins of the fathers. Andrew expresses this theme time and time again. There is a persuasive technique involved to persuade though the use of guilt by attempting to transfer the sins of the fathers (past generations) upon the current generations.

I oppose reparations for generational sins of the fathers. I support creating a system of justice, education, jobs, security, education, liberty, prosperity and opportunity for everyone during our watch.

All Americans need a new awakening to our current responsibilities. We MUST stop supporting dictators and genocide in our name on our watch. Israel is conducting genocide on our watch in our name with the support of our tax dollars and policy flowing from Washington. I would not have supported the genocide of the native American Indian, and I do not support the genocide of the Palestinian people by Israel.

Those who don't like this statement of 'policy' can call the campaign and complain, but I am not affected by the sins of the fathers. I easily reject these attempts to make me and others feel guilty about historical events we had no part in. People who wish to defend liberty TODAY for everyone, including the Palestinians, should start rejecting loudly this attempt by Israel to conduct genocide on OUR WATCH with OUR SUPPORT.

On edit: put quotes around 'policy.' While these are my opinions, some would like to suppress my opinions by accusing me of making policy for the campaign. In no way am I associated with the campaign, however, Ron Paul does NOT support the genocide of Palestinian people and Ron Paul has expressed many times that the US should withdraw financial aid from Israel and bring our troops home from the Middle East which would allow Israel to defend itself and pay for its own foreign policy both in terms of its financial cost and socio-political blow back.

This video is a trailer of a 60 minute production by the folks who run the website at if americans knew.org.

From the website's About page:

"If Americans Knew was originally founded by an American freelance journalist, Alison Weir*, who traveled independently throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip in February and March of 2001. Ms. Weir found a situation largely the reverse of what was being reported by the American media. Upon further examination of this issue ? she read dozens of books on the topic ? she found that the U.S. press portrayal was significantly at odds with information being reported by media throughout the rest of the world.

"Disturbed that American citizens were being misinformed and uninformed on one of the most significant issues affecting them today, and discovering the problem to be systemic, she founded an organization to be directed by Americans without bias and ethnic ties to the region who would research and actively disseminate accurate information to the American public.

"Since that time, If Americans Knew has begun producing informational materials, assisted in organizing public forums, produced media studies, and provided speakers and written materials to hundreds of venues across the United States, among them Harvard Law School, Stanford, Columbia, The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, The University of California at Berkeley, Northwestern University, The Center for Policy Analysis on Palestine, The National Press Club, The Naval Postgraduate School, and numerous other university campuses, churches, libraries, and civic organizations in every region of the United States.

"In March of 2004, Ms. Weir was inducted into honorary membership of Phi Alpha Literary Society, founded in 1845 at Illinois College. The award cited her as a: ?Courageous journalist-lecturer on behalf of human rights. The first woman to receive an honorary membership in Phi Alpha history.?"

Your good friend Maxwell Smart will get a good belly laugh out of your name calling. I don't think, he could have said it any better. The silence of others here is golden. You seem to act as their storm trooper. It does fit you perfectly, I have to admit. Why bother rebutting my statements? Just call me names, which doesn't require any thinking at all. Y'all Neo-Nazi skinheads definitely stick together, for good reason. Too much thinking, might give you a headache.
