I really need some educated help on this one.
What is the best way to dump my dollars for either foreign currency or gold/silver. Can anyone suggest a site to do this and what exactly should I buy? |

Just my opinion...... Go to APMEX and buy generic 999 silver rounds and or bars. Don't buy the "Silver Eagles". You'll pay extra because of the collectors value. When TSHTF nobody's gonna care about "collectors value". It'll be all about the weight....period. Silver is expected to exceed the value of gold. There's less of it and it's needed for all types of electronics. It's the best conductor of electricity. APMEX also offers a precious metals IRA.
I'm not exchanging my US dollars for any foreign dollars.....To me, it's all fiat money.....Just my opinion. |

I would recommend the pre-1964 rounds myself (of various denominations). Only because they're in small units that are easily traded. What would you do with a bar? I guess if you wanted to make a large purchase it could come in handy.

Correct. Those should be fine. I was thinking of something like the 100oz bar I saw recently.

I really need some educated help on this one. This is a great resource for you -- http://tribes.tribe.n... { tribes.tribe.net/usdprotection } In order to post to this site, you will need to register for free. You do not need to register to read it, however. Lots of very high quality information there, that is very hard to find. |

I looked at Apmex and the 1 oz. fine silver rounds are selling for $17.11 each. For around $18.80 you can get SAE's on one of the auction sites.
Do you think it is wiser to buy the coins as they might have collectors value as well one day? |

I seem to recall reading that for buying goods and services, purchasing coins with "collectors" value isn't a good choice. The reason was that the "collectors" value would be diminished if people decided to start trading in rare metals. The metal has the higher value. This could be a problem for you if you owned coins with a very high collectors value compared to the metal itself. I think I read that on the tribes site.
I think if you really like coins, and would like some collectors coins, buying some would be OK. I would diversify though, and buy more of the standard rounds that are easy to trade with and make change. |
