Folks,
I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the work you all have done. Louisiana is poised to give Ron Paul the greatest victory thus far in the campaign. If it happens, it will be because you all rolled up your sleeves, mobilized, and did the hard work. We have 7 days left. Just 7 days. This is just a reminder of what every caucus leader has to do to ensure victory on the 22^nd : 1. 1. Every Ron Paul supporter must be called. a. Everyone has a list of Ron Paul supporters by parish. Since initially dividing up this list, we have added 500 new supporters! So, you?ll be getting an updated list to add to what you?re already calling. It is vital that each supporter is called and give information about the location and times of the caucuses, whether they need transportation, etc. b. When calling supporters, ask them how many people they plan to bring with them to the caucus. Encourage them to bring as many of their friends as possible?as long as they are registered Republicans. Only Registered Republicans as of November 30, 2007 may vote at the caucus. c. Ask the supporters to be sure to bring proof of registration if they have it. There have already been some problems with the GOP using older lists and not having some Ron Paul supporters listed on the rolls. We have been assured that they will use the updated list at the caucuses, but just to make sure, everyone needs to bring some independent verification of their registered status to the caucuses. We want to make sure EVERY vote is counted. A voter registration card would be acceptable, but a receipt from the voter registrar?s office should suffice as well. But if people can?t find their registration card, bring them anyway and we?ll hope the GOP list is current. d. Once you have called your entire list, you now have your registration list for your individual caucus. 2. 2. GOTV calls. a. On the day before and the day of the caucus, it is important that people on your registration list be called and re-confirmed. Also let them know that there will be a pre-caucus rally at the caucus location at 4pm (or 3:30 if you meet earlier). Everyone needs to be at the caucus early to register at the Ron Paul table. If we know how many Ron Paul supporters we have at each caucus, we can make sure every vote is counted. 3. Caucus Rallies a. At 4pm, host a rally at the caucus location for all Ron Paul supporters. Bring signs and wave banners, invite local musicians if possible. Have a party! b. As people arrive, you can check them off your registration list. At around 5:30pm, you can call anyone on the list that has not voted yet and encourage them to get out there and vote. c. Ask supporters at the rally to call their friends and get them down there to support Ron Paul. d. If supporters can stay and wait for the outcome at 8pm, that would be great because the more people we have lingering around the caucus area, the more support we?ll show. And those people can be enlisted to help call registered Republicans and turn them out to vote. 4. 4. BALLOT DISTRIBUTION a. The Ron Paul campaign will have ?official? delegate sample ballots printed for each caucus containing the names of all our delegates and alternates. Make sure each Ron Paul supporter has a ballot going into the caucus. These four items are priority items for making the caucuses a great success. Sign-waving, canvassing, etc. are all secondary. Wait until after Jan. 22 to do these things. For now, let?s all stay focused on the most important thing we can do: turn registered republicans out to the caucuses. The campaign is sending a special mailing today to every supporter we have in our database in LA. It will contain the location of each caucus and an 800 number for people to call if they have questions. This mailing should hit by the weekend. I am also asking Dr. Paul to record a special message that will be phoned into every supporter before the caucus. And finally, I am working with the campaign schedule to try and get Dr. Paul to visit LA before the caucus. Nothing is absolutely confirmed yet on this, so please don?t announce anything to that effect. I?ll keep you posted on any developments. Again, I can?t tell you how much I appreciate all you?re doing. Remember: Victory is just 7 days away! Best regards, Matt Chancey Southeast Regional Coordinator Ron Paul 2008 |
