The property tax has been approved by a 13-12 vote, however Jeffery Sprys did not vote and was unavailable for comment after the vote. I am against the tax hike and these are the reasons why:
We are in an economic crisis and Michigan is being hit the hardest. I cannot in good judgement rally for a tax hike in Macomb when our houses cannot sell, the value is decreasing on a daily basis, and the residents are being laid off continually. I have scanned the minutes from the Mar 26th meeting and wonder why: 1. The sheriff's office needs 8 new scanners 2. The sheriff's office needs 10 leased New Harley Davidsons for a little over $16,000 and 3. why we need to spend $11,000 to participate in a SEMCOG aerial flight along with other things All the commissioners need to sit down and figure out all the BS that needs to be cut out of the budget. Our taxes need to be used for important areas like infrastructure, schools, fire, and police. I really don't care how long it takes to hash out a budget that doesn't spend anymore money than they already have. I have had it with the tax and spend philosophies. We have had to make do with less because of the economy, and they expect us to pay more. I really don't care if 700 county employees get laid off (I really believe they are playing the "Fear" card), residents of Michigan over the past few years have been laid off due to the economy, and county offices aren't exempt. 700 less employees = less salaries that need to be paid, ooh maybe our taxes could decrease. The value of our homes have decreased for the past 4 years, people can't even sell their homes at this time. I pay their salaries, I vote them into or out of office, I live in Macomb County, and I am sick of the spend and tax philosophy! I will keep an eye on the spending going on in Macomb County, and will have a great time campaigning to get them out of office if their performance is unsatisfactory. There is a public hearing on April 28th Tuesday: Title: Public Hearing regarding proposed tax increase Description: Public Hearing regarding proposed tax increase at 9 a.m. At 1 S. Main Street, 9th Floor, Mount Clemens MI, 48043. Times: 9:00AM - 10:00AM It then faces final approval from the Board of Commissioners on April 30. I would like to get people together to go to the hearing and fight this tax hike. Please let me know if anyone is interested. Thanks, Tami Thomas |
