Florida State Constitution Resolution HJR 37 This basically is to exept Floridians from the Federal Healthcare law if passed. http://www.meetup.com... Contact your State Representative and Senator and tell them to co-sponsor HJR 37 resolution. If there are enough co-sponsors prior to the start of the March 2010 session, passing this resolution will become a matter of business to "wrap-up" verses a "point of debate and challenge." I attended the Town Hall Meeting with Rep Nehr and Senator Baker on Sept. 15th. Here is the "skinny" on HJR 37. This State Constitution resolution provides protection for the citizens of Florida from "mandatory" participation in "any" federal government healthcare plan and any fines or penalties that may result from non-participation. Should our country's healthcare become a Single Payor system, HJR 37 would provide the legal means necessary to challenge the federal government's over-reach into state rights. What is does not do: It will not prevent federal or state healthcare reforms. This resolution does not restrict "free-market" reforms of any kind. For example, if insurance companies are granted the ability to sell policies across state lines HJR 37 will not restrict this practice. It will not effect/restrict Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare or any other federal or state healthcare plan currently in place. Unfortunately, It will not prevent any employer from dropping a private plan and opting into a federal plan or co-op. What needs to be done: 1. This resolution needs to be part of our state's Constitution BEFORE any Single Payor system is implemented. 2. This resolution must pass by a 60% majority in both the State House and Senate during the next session. (begins in March 2010) 3. If it passes both the House and Senate it will be put on the ballot in November 2010 for voters to decide. 4. In November, Floridians will have an opportunity to vote "yes" or "no" on the resolution. The "yes" votes must total at least 60% of those who voted in order to pass. 5. Start talking to friends, family and neighbors about HJR 37. When November 2010 rolls around, all Floridians need to have already heard about it and be ready to support it. 6. Please Contact your State Representative and Senator and tell them to co-sponsor this resolution. It may be our only chance to continue our "free choice" of healthcare options. |
