Dear Fellow Republican,

The Florida Governor’s race at first looked like another case of Republican Party elites deciding for us who our candidate would be. Then a funny thing happened on the way to the coronation.

Florida State Senator Paula Dockery appeared open to the idea of running for Governor. That’s right, the Woman Who Stopped A Train—was now ready to see if she could stop an anointing of a king!

Paula’s story of why she opposed Commuter Rail in Central Florida says a lot about what kind of Governor she would be. SunRail was considered to be a slam-dunk; a done-deal; or whatever other superlative you wanted to call it.

The special interests along with mega private railroad CSX, had worked carefully to line up every vote in the Florida Senate. If a Senator balked, they threatened them with every possible repercussion. If that didn’t work they worked round the clock to find friends from back home in the district to call and say, ‘Everyone is for this—you’re making a big mistake.

Paula never even flinched. Instead she redoubled her efforts to discover what was behind this giant lobbying effort.

What she found really troubled her. Backroom deals giving away 10’s of millions to CSX was only the beginning. Later she found huge legal liabilities to Florida taxpayers for accidents EVEN IF IT WASN’T A SUNRAIL Train.

And where was the rest of official Republican Party of Florida leaders? The cute line would be ‘asleep at the switch.’ Unfortunately, that isn’t the whole story. The most disturbing part was that it appears that forces at the top of RPOF were not sleeping at the switch; they were sleeping with the enemy of smaller government and personal responsibility.

Folks, the time has come for us to regain the Republican Party of Florida and open up the primary process. This is not only necessary for us as Republicans but also for all citizens of Florida.

Someone will sit in the Governor’s Mansion in Tallahassee. You will have to answer for yourself whether it should be someone picked by Party bureaucrats or the people.

If you want a race that pry’s open the locked door of Party politics, then here is where it starts!
