Friday night we will be voting for National Convention delegates so your presence is most certainly needed! I'm still assuming that we're meeting on the terrace on the west side of Vets Auditorium at 6:30 to determine who we as RP delegates are going to be voting for. If I hear otherwise, I'll be sure to let you know. If anyone would like to carpool, let us know and we'll work something out. Thanks, Chad Steve Hoodjer from Butler county emailed our local meetup group with this message and I thought that I'd pass it on: Dear Cedar Valley Ron Paul supporters, First and foremost, it is my hope that you have all come through the storms and the floods and that you and your loved ones are well on the path of getting life back to normal. Now to business. The rescheduled Republican State Convention is next weekend, Friday night July 11 and Saturday July 12. We need to make sure that all of our Ron Paul people who were elected as state delegates/alternates at their county conventions in March attend this state convention and help us get some delegates on to the national level. If you were elected at the county level, please send your name and email address to me at stevehoodjer@gmail.com so I can make sure that we keep you in the loop as to our final preparations. I know that many of you may be discouraged or have lost interest in the Republican delegate process since Dr. Paul suspended his campaign. Please allow me a moment to encourage you to stay involved at least for one more go-round. While it is clear to all but a few crazies on certain sites that John McCain and not Ron Paul will be the Republican nominee, there is still much good work we can accomplish to advance the ideas that Dr. Paul articulated during the campaign. At our district convention in April, we were few in number (about 10% of the total delegates) and we suffered some setbacks but also had some achievements. We contested every elected seat on the state committees and even placed two of our own on the state platform committee. Because of their passion, knowledge, and commitment the state GOP platform now calls for abolishing the Federal Reserve, ending the income tax, repealing corporate welfare, and many other signature Ron Paul positions. We also made our voices heard in the platform debates at the convention. I had the privilege (?) of sitting next to Mrs. Gerri Dix, wife of Bill Dix the socialized medicine advocate who chaired the meeting. Whenever one of our people rose to speak and our position carried the vote, she scowled and muttered, "Ron Paul won again." While a few of us did most of the speaking and stood for election, the efforts of the rest of our team were crucial as they helped with the organizing, distributing flyers for our Ron Paul candidates, and being there to vote on the right side. At this state convention, we expect our proportion to be roughly the same. While that will not be enough to get all of what we'd like our 10% or so will hold a critical balance of power, especially in the delegate voting on Friday night. If you received the recent emails from Dr. Drew Ivers, our state chair, then you've already heard the story. The Iowa Christian Alliance holds the largest single "bloc" of votes within the state GOP, but they feel ostracized over the exclusion of what they consider "good conservatives" from the establishment's list of preferred national delegates. They have reached out to us for help and the votes to put their slate over the top. In exchange, they have added a number of Ron Paul supporters to their list. This is our chance to secure a very tangible, very important victory for the Ron Paul campaign. You see, since the 1980s the GOP has been ruled by a coaltion between Christian Right social conservatives and the hated neo-cons. The neo-cons, always small in number, got the votes they needed to seize power and the social cons got George W. Bush type leaders who spoke their religious language. Today, with John McCain coming to the forefront, social conservatives are beginning to wake up to the fact that they've been getting the short end of the stick in this deal and are casting about for a new ally. In state after state, grassroots activists from the social conservative camp are seeking the support of those of us in the freedom movement. In West Virginia and Kentucky specifically, local Huckabee leaders cut deals with the Ron Paul camp without the knowledge or approval of their higher-ups and sent mixed tickets of Huckabee and Paul supporters to the national convention in spite of our small showing in those primaries. This doesn't mean that we have to approve of everything they advocate, nor have they accepted all of our message, but we are able to find enough common ground to help both of our sides and strike a blow against the neo-con GOP establishment. If we can show ourselves to be a reliable partner now, that can open great doors for our movement in the future. I know Dr. Ivers is working up some great plans to transform our campaign from one for a candidate into one for a message, some of you may have already joined Ron Paul's Campaign for Liberty group, or are working for the r3VOLution in other ways. Getting ourselves some national delegates now would be a great start for these efforts, and all you have to do to change history is show up in Des Moines Friday night and vote. I myself will be running as one of the fusion ICA/Ron Paul delegate candidates, so if you can't do it for the cause, at least come out and give me your support. There's a good chance I will not be able to stay through Saturday, so if you want to go down only on Friday night (the night of the delegate votes) and still not miss your weekend, I may be able to drive some people back that night. When you contact me with your name and email, let me know you'd like a ride and I'll try to work something out. Please forward this message to any other groups or individual Paul supporters you know that may be elected state delegates.
