With Utah's precinct caucuses now behind us, it's time to begin a new phase of our efforts...
Fulfilling Delegate Responsibilities Many of you are now your precinct's county and state delegates. Congratulations! :D As delegates, you now bear the heavy responsibility of helping to choose Utah's Republican Party's nominees for various offices in this year's general election. So, you can vote for virtuous liberty-lovin' Republicans and possibly help get rid of corrupt RINOs. Republican candidates know your great power and, so, they will now try to meet with you, possibly wine-and-dine you, and deluge you with their campaign literature. Please listen carefully to what they tell you--and, more importantly, whenever possible, scrutinize their records. And please don't give away your support lightly, nor allow yourselves to be bought with any bribes or empty promises. You may also be invited to participate in various surveys, possibly paid for by candidates who are eager to estimate how much support they have--it's usually best to decline to participate in these, thereby denying them such powerful information. Converting State Delegates Chances are that, despite our many successes on March 25th, less than a majority of Utah's 3,500ish state delegates are currently Ron Paul Republicans. It would help for us to work to try to increase that percentage as much as possible during these next several weeks. I'd like to initiate sort of organized effort to contact all of these state delegates to try to win their support for Ron Paul. And possibly for other Ron Paul Republican candidates, as well. Preparing National Delegates Utah's Republican state delegates, during their state convention, will elect 33 of Utah's 36 Republican national delegates, along with 33 alternates. So, we need exactly 66 Ron Paul Republicans (no more, no less) to try to fill each one of these 66 positions. All 66 must be both willing and able to attend this year's Republican National Convention in St. Paul, MN, on September 1st-4th at their own expense. Andre Campos and Lowell Nelson have been working together to develop a Ron Paul slate, as well as a strategy that will maximize its odds of being elected. So, please contact either one of them if you're interested in seeking a national delegate position. Hopefully, every Ron Paul Republican now serving as a state delegate will be informed of this slate before their state convention. Canvassing Other States Not all states are as far into their primary/caucus/convention process as Utah is now. In fact, ten more states will hold their Republican primary elections between April 22nd and June 3rd. Neighboring Idaho will hold its Republican primary on May 27th--and, between now and then, Idahoans for Ron Paul could use our help canvassing precincts there in person. Other states could use our help canvassing voters via telephone, as well; so, if you have time to do so, then please sign up to become a "precinct leader" on Ron Paul's official campaign website so that you can help with this project. The enemies of rightful liberty are relentless. So, we must be equally so. Let's keep on truckin'... |

Ron Paul at Our Republican State Convention?
Ron Paul spoke at yesterday's Republican state convention in Nevada (see both here and here). How would you like him to speak at ours here in Utah, as well? He can't do so unless our state party leaders invite him. And they won't invite him unless folks like us persuade them to do so. So, y'all, please contact Stan Lockhart at least once sometime during this next week to persuade him to invite the good doctor to our state convention. If Dr. Paul cannot attend (which is possible), then I want it to be because of his schedule and not because he was never invited. Utah Republican State Convention Business
Utah's Republican Party has posted more info about our upcoming state convention on its website. You can now read its official call, agenda, rules, candidates, and documents (Constitution changes, by-law changes, platform changes, and convention resolutions). Cheryl Newbold recommends to put STAN LOCKHART in your e-mail's subject line if you're contacting Utah GOP HQ in order to request that Ron Paul be invited to speak at this convention. |

On Saturday, we could use a vast horde of friendly Paulunteers operating at Utah's Republican Party's state convention--folks who are neither delegates nor candidates!!! Purposes We could use a number of stealth Paulunteers to assist Ron Paul Republican candidates (for national delegate or for U.S. Congress or for other offices), including by distributing fliers presenting our slates (RLC-UT, "defend America," sound money, et cetera) to state delegates. Most of those of us who are either state delegates or candidates will not be advertising our support for Ron Paul in order to make it harder for our opponents to target us. And, thus, we need other folks to promote Ron Paul, instead, in order to help win over at least some of those many state delegates who remain uncertain about whom to support. We could use such Paulunteers waving Ron Paul signs at state delegates as they arrive, distributing Ron Paul literature to state delegates, and generally displaying oodles of visible support for Ron Paul. If some of these undecided state delegates sense that all of the enthusiasm in the convention hall is for Paul rather than for McCain, then they may feel inclined to join the seeming majority. Larry Meyers will be staffing a Utah Republican Assembly (URA) booth at this convention. I thought that I'd heard somewhere that he'd be sharing it with the RLC-UT. But, then, I heard that he'd merely offered to let us place our RLC-UT slate fliers on it. My best info at present is that any of us who pay URA dues ($11) may place literature on it. In any case, it seems that we will likely have some limited percentage of booth space there that we can use. Perhaps Larry could use some help in staffing this booth. And, even if not, then he could probably still use some Paulunteers loitering around it in order to give it the appearance of being popular and, thus, attract even more folks to it. So, this booth will provide yet other ways that Paulunteers can help. If any of y'all have any other good ideas that we can try to implement, then please feel free to share them with us, either on our message board or at this convention itself. Basically, there won't be any lack of good work for us to do at this convention and we could use lots of help doing it! Schedule We'll need a tremendous amount of help with literature distribution (for Ron Paul himself, for Ron Paul Republican candidates, for slates of candidates, for promoting principles and such, et cetera) between about 6:30AM and 10:30AM--but not much afterward. If we collect more than enough Paulunteers for this, then we can focus on secondary priorities, as well, such as waving signs or any other good ideas that y'all may have. I don't know either how much or what sort of additional help candidates can use. I expect that the URA booth will remain open for the entire duration of this convention. Coordinator Lowell Nelson will be focused primarily on our Ron Paul Republican delegates during this convention. So, I don't yet know who will be coordinating Paulunteer efforts during this convention. We might not determine this until tomorrow morning. In any case, if you show up, then it shouldn't be too hard to track down this person, whomever it may be--just look around for some fellow Paulunteers (as most shouldn't be too hard to spot) or ask at the URA booth. Advice If you Paulunteer at this convention, then please try hard not to give anyone there just cause to see us as an angry mob of disruptors. In fact, please work hard to dispel any such false presumptions that state delegates may bring with them. Be polite and courteous and respectful and friendly--and avoid wasting time arguing with folks who are committed to opposing us. So, whether you're a delegate or a candidate or a Paulunteer, I look forward to seeing y'all bright and early tomorrow morning at UVSC in Orem!!! |
