In talking with a citizen patriot from
Barnwell County (who helped those of us in the Aiken Ron Paul Meetup Group in
the days leading up to the Republican Presidential Preference Primary this past
January), I learned about Ron Paul's toll-free weekly message. Although I had
been to Dr. Paul's Congressional website numerous times, I must have always
overlooked this opportunity (which is at the bottom of the page).
I just dialed in and listened to his
excellent talk on high gas prices, which is word-for-word what is online under
his "Texas Straight Talk" weekly column, linked below. The toll-free message is
updated each Monday.
Given the tremendous resource that Ron
Paul's Texas Straight Talk represents, I see no reason why citizen patriots from
this group cannot adapt some of the verbiage into letters to editors of
newspapers across South Carolina. Daily and weekly online newspapers are listed
on
Thanks, Vicki

May 4,
2008: Big Government Responsible for High Gas Prices "Basic
economics says that when government restricts the supply of a good, the
price will increase. Yet Congress continues to reject simple measures that
could increase the supply of oil. For example, Congress refuses to allow
reasonable, environmentally sensitive, offshore drilling. Congress also
refuses to remove the numerous regulatory hurdles that add to the
prohibitively expensive task of constructing new refineries. Building a
new refinery requires billions of dollars in capital investment. It can
take several years just to obtain the necessary federal permits. Even
after the permits are obtained, construction of a refinery may still be
delayed or even halted by frivolous lawsuits. It is no wonder that there has not
been a new refinery constructed in the United
States since 1976."

10, 2008: Statement on Earmark Reform "Congress has already
all but ceded its authority to declare war to the executive branch. Now we
are giving away our power of the purse. Madame Speaker, the logical
conclusion of the arguments that it is somehow illegitimate for members of
Congress to control the distribution of federal funds in their district is
that Congress should only meet one week a year to appropriate a lump sum
to be given to the president for him to allocate to the federal government
as he sees fit."

21, 2008: Congressman Paul Stands Up for National
Sovereignty ?As we all know, there have been significant
moves recently to expand the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP)
initiated by President Bush and his Mexican and Canadian counterparts in
2005. One such plan is to construct a so-called ?NAFTA Superhighway?
running from Mexico, through Texas,
and up eventually into Canada. I have opposed this
project from the beginning, signing on as a co-sponsor of House Concurrent
Resolution 40 expressing Congressional disapproval of the NAFTA
Superhighway and any moves toward a North American Union."
