The stage is set for fireworks to occur in next week's nationally televised GOP
Presidential debate. Public Broadcasting Service, PBS, will broadcast the
GOP debate from Morgan State University on Thursday September 27th at
9:00pm EST. The debate moderator will be Tavis Smiley.

Rudolph Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson and John McClain have all declined
to participate in the debate at the historically black college.
Their rejections are in line with previous GOP candidates' pattern of missing
from minority forums.

Smiley, host of Tavis Smiley, PBS' late-night talk show wants his viewers
to ask why "these Republicans (are) dissing black and brown folk."

National Council of La Raza vice president, Cecelia Munoz said "It's not
just that they are not coming. It's that some of them are visibly insulting us."

Participating GOP candidates will be Ron Paul, Tom Tancredo, Sam
Brownback, Mike Huckabee, Duncan Hunter, and Alan Keyes.

The stage at the Murphy Fine Arts Center will include four empty lecterns
representing the missing leading Republican candidates.

Smiley said "We are delighted the other (six) are coming and appreciate
their courage for showing up. The beat goes on."
