Re: [ronpaul-196] About the GOP Meeting in Montpelier last saturday

also remember, whoever runs doesn't have to commit full time, we have many part-time revolutionaries with different abilities
behind them... Also we would have to inspect Peter Welsh's voting record, and look for real weaknesses, especially in foreiegn policy. We know Ron Paul voted alone in a nay for condemning Palestinians for violence, among many others. I would say if he has a slew of bad votes that VT liberals, and Vermonters in general would frown upon, AND if we can get GOP and Libertarian support, we would be a slight favorite.

Yes, Ben is right. There are a number of districts with retiring incumbents or where there simply is no Republican running. Everyone should check their districts and identify whether there is an opportunity.

The biggest effect we can have right now is to run someone for Congress against Peter Welch. The Republicans here have no one who is serious about making an effort. I would do whatever I could to promote a Ron Paul Republican for this position. We need more folks working with Ron Paul in Congress to help bring about change. This is RIPE for the picking. There isn't much time to lose, the sooner we can get a candidate the better.

I will be out of town until Friday. Hopefully there will be lots of discussion to catch up on. Marek mentioned Rita's name as a possibility, we can also talk to Stewart Skrill who ran against Bernie back in (I think) 2004. If anything, he could give us feedback on his campaign and how a Libertarian/Republican was treated by the VTGOP.

The website Marek posted does look interesting.

Let's start brainstorming and focusing. I think we are going to need to really finesse our presentation so we don't sound like radical conspiracy-theorists. I know I am one, but I know the Old Guard isn't interested in it or being overrun by a bunch of "America Haters." We are patriots and we love this country. We should think about putting together a platform committee and perhaps a Liberty Caucus or Conservative Values caucus or something to that effect. We need to put our concerns out there while speaking their language. I'm rambling now, but we really should try to focus on 5 top priority issues and 5 secondary issues. Let's start trying to come up with some ideas and solutions so if and when we do find a candidate for any office statewide we have a plan of action.

For Liberty and Justice, fellow patriots!

Marek and everyone,
We should get together, run some people, ect. If we can each do what we did for Ron Paul and get the VT GOP support, we could win.

Hello all;

 I want to share a few things from the GOP meeting that was held last Saturday in Montpelier.  There were four of us active Ron Paul supporters there in a crowd of about 25 people and at the beginning of the meeting, the chairman Rob Roper made a point of recognizing us having done so much work before the primary for Dr. Paul, for which we got a large round of applause.  We were not expecting this, but people were quite enthusiastic and afterwards many came up individually to ask about our efforts and the meetup group.

Now, it is interesting that the chairman made such a point of recognition, and more than it has to do with Ron Paul, it has to do with the fact that we were the first new faces at such a meeting in a long time.  It was openly discussed throughout the meeting that the VTGOP is shrinking and has very few young people involved.  They're stretching for new ideas about getting the word out; for example they had made two 60 second commercials that comedically put down the democrats, one of which had a guy taking his shirt and pants off to get attention while holding up a 'legalize marijuana' sign on a sidewalk.

I don't think people were really too impressed or excited about such tactics, what they really want is a growing party, so the point of this email is that this is absolutely the time for us to get involved.  To make a real difference, we can't keep completely separate from the actual party and this is a time where they are looking for people to run for district representatives amongst other positions; the most notable being the congressional seat against Welsh.  As of now they have no one, and some people were so discouraged that they suggested not even wasting resources to platform a candidate who would probably lose; most, however, do want to put forth a competative candidate.

If anyone has ideas, wants more info or potentially wants to run for a position, contact Rob Roper.  He is very approachable and like I said, starved for new ideas and people, so our presence can be strongly felt.  The number to reach him is 802-223-3411, or by email at [address removed]
