Hippies had their Summer of Love in 1968--and we've had our Summer of Liberty this year. Let's bring this summer to a big finish during this year's Republican National Convention!!! Here's both what you can attend and what you can do to make this September one to remember...
NOW - Aug 31: Ron Paul for President Our Republican state convention chose only 3 Ron Paul Republicans to serve as part of its 36-member national delegation. This delegation will remain bound to vote for Mitt Romney on their first national convention ballot and will be unbound on any subsequent ballots. At present, it seems unlikely that the Republican National Convention will require more than one ballot to choose its official nominee; but, just in case, between now and September, it would not hurt us to try to convert those 33 Utahn Republican national delegates (and their alternates) who are not already behind Ron Paul. Please contact me if you'd like to help with this effort. Here are three organized nationwide grassroots projects to convert Republican national delegates that could also use your labor and/or money: Manifesto Delegato is ensuring that every national delegate receives Ron Paul's new book The Revolution: A Manifesto; DVDs for Delegates is working to send every national delegate a persuasive DVD; and Operation St. Paul is purchasing billboard advertisements during this convention. Please help with any or all of these projects, if you can. Aug 11 - Sep 02: Walk for Freedom Some Ron Paul revolutionaries have organized a Great American Walk for Freedom this August, for which hundreds of people will spend three weeks walking from either Ames, IA, or Green Bay, WI, to Minneapolis, MN, educating folks about sound political principles and generating publicity along their way. They welcome your donations, if not your participation. Aug 31 - Sep 02: Campaign for Liberty Ron Paul's new Campaign for Liberty will become fully operational during a series of exciting events in Minneapolis that will coincide with this year's Republican National Convention in neighboring St. Paul. You can read Dr. Paul's invitation to attend these events here. Tickets to these events will be available here starting Friday, July 25th, at 10:00AM CST. These events include: * Aug 31 @ 12:00pm - 09:00pm: Real Politics Training School in Minneapolis * Sep 01 @ 01:00pm - 03:00pm: Ron Paul Book Signing in Roseville * Sep 01 @ 07:00pm - 11:00pm: Ron Paul Nation Celebration in Blaine * Sep 02 @ 11:30am - 10:00pm: Rally for the Republic in Minneapolis I already reserved a cheap hotel room there earlier this year. Ron Levine hopes to be there for these events, as do Poppy & Cristian Moreno. I hope to see more of y'all there, as well. I hear that Joseph Knapp will probably drive his 47-passenger bus there and back. And I've also heard rumors that a local Ron Paul revolutionary will allow fellow RPRs to camp on his sizeable property for free--I'll post more about this if/when I learn more. Sep 01 - Sep 04: Republican National Convention This year's Republican National Convention will transpire at Xcel Energy Center, located at 199 W Kellogg Boulevard in St. Paul, on September 1st - 4th. Our own Brian Jenkins will attend this as a Republican national delegate. Some of y'all may wish to serve as convention volunteers, as suggested here, which may or may not allow you opportunities to influence this year's Republican national delegates. Sep 01 - Sep 04: Republican Liberty Caucus The Republican Liberty Caucus would love to have an active presence (through booths, if nothing else) both at the Republican National Convention and at Ron Paul's Rally for the Republic; please visit this Yahoo! group if you'd like to share your ideas about what to do there and/or to volunteer your labor in implementing these ideas. Also, by the way, the RLC will hold its own national convention at a Crowne Plaza near Detroit on September 12th - 14th. All current RLC members will have full delegate status at this convention. WARNING: Beware of Agents Provocateurs! Congress recently voted to spend $100 million on "security expenses" at this year's national conventions for both major parties, which you can read about here. And police have already been soliciting folks to infiltrate groups that are planning to conduct protests during this year's Republican National Convention, as you can read here. These infiltrators will be seeking intelligence about potential acts of domestic terrorism, which they will report to the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force. Remember that "terrorism" is generally defined as unlawful use of violence in pursuit of desired sociopolitical goals. Although I expect no violence from genuine Ron Paul revolutionaries, infiltrators have sometimes served as agents provocateurs in recent years, deliberately trying to turn peaceful protests violent in order to give police an excuse to crack down on genuine protestors. For example, some infiltrators attempted to do this to an SPP protest in Canada last summer--but genuine protestors thwarted them, as you can read here. So, if you observe any such attempts to cause violence while in Minnesota, then please thwart them immediately so that nobody gets hurt or, worse yet, sent to Guantanamo Bay. Sep 04 - FOREVER: Utahns for Liberty These Republican National Convention events will mark both an ending and a new beginning to our nationwide revolution for liberty. Please help spread word about them. And please support our new RLC/CFL Meetup group, Utahns for Liberty of Utah County, so that it can continue our fight for freedom under these new banners. We have much work to do, including planning for our next state GOP organizing convention in 2009 and retiring more RINOs in both 2010 and 2012. So, let's get to work! |

Here's a message that I just received about a PAC to help Ron Paul Republican national delegates afford to attend this year's Republican National Convention...
Ron Paul Delegates Need Our Help! Fellow supporters of Ron Paul, The Republican National Convention is less than one month away... And we have SEVERAL HUNDRED elected delegates and alternates going who SUPPORT RON PAUL! The "official tally" of Ron Paul delegates stands at 42. But the UNOFFICIAL count of delegates who are "pledged" to someone else -- like McCain, Romney, or Huckabee -- but who ACTUALLY support Ron Paul, is now in the HUNDREDS! For a couple of months now, our new FEC-approved Delegate Committee (like a PAC) has been putting the word out: if any of these Ron Paul delegates, who have been willing to put the time and effort into becoming delegates (and suffer the persecution from the establishment), cannot afford the expense of attending the Convention, WE WANT TO HELP. At an average cost of $3000 per person (and yes, that is NOT a typo -- ask ANYONE who has gone to the RNC before, and they will verify that number), there are a number of people who really can't afford to go, but who were willing to step up and fight hard to win that delegate slot. Now, they might have to sleep in cars and eat peanut butter sandwiches in order to have the opportunity to affect CHANGE at that convention. We don't think they should have to do that. That's why we're trying to raise the money to send them. Supporters of the Ron Paul r3VOLution have come through for the cause, time and again. Now, we need one more push -- and we'll have the chance to accomplish the immediate goals at the National Convention. https://secure.respon... Our Delegate Committee is one of the "public faces" of the current INDEPENDENT effort to support Ron Paul at the National Convention. (Please Note: The Campaign for Liberty is NOT affiliated with or endorsing this effort.) As a "political committee" under 11 CFR 110.14(b)(2) we are committed to two main goals: (1) to raise and donate enough money to send to the 2008 Republican National Convention every Ron Paul supporter who has been elected as a delegate or alternate delegate but who has need of funds to get to the RNC; and (2) to promote Ron Paul and his ideas to every delegate and alternate delegate attending the convention. We've now heard from over a DOZEN delegates and alternates who have been elected to go to the Republican National Convention -- and who have signed sworn affidavits to support Ron Paul at the RNC -- but who need OUR help in getting there. CAN YOU HELP??? https://secure.respon... This is not a scam or a rip-off. This is REAL, as a visit to the fec.gov link on our website at http://www.DelegatesF... I have to tell you, we had a potential supporter that was going to send a check to cover all of the expenses for all of these Ron Paul delegates who need the help. He wasn't going to send a check to US -- he was going to send a check to EACH ONE of the delegates, individually. He has backed out on us. That's his right, of course; it's his money, after all. But now, there are over a dozen Ron Paul delegates who might have to stay home during the Republican National Convention. I don't want to see that happen. Do you? It's perfectly legal to donate to help send a Delegate to the national convention -- whether you donate to a Delegate Committee (like ours) which then divides up the donations among several Delegates; or whether you donate directly to one or more Delegates to help cover their expenses. We've been asked to help. We paid registration fees to one state party, for eight Ron Paul delegates who couldn't afford it. But now, because of this large donor backing out on us, we can't afford to help anyone else. Unless YOU can help US. We don't have ANY overhead or "hidden costs" for our group. There are NO paid staffers. The ONLY cost we have right now is the credit card processing fees when someone donates online. If you can give $50, all of that money will go directly to Ron Paul delegates. If you can give $100, all of that money will go directly to Ron Paul delegates. If you can give $200, all of that money will go directly to Ron Paul delegates. If you can give $500, all of that money will go directly to Ron Paul delegates. If you can give $1000, all of that money will go directly to Ron Paul delegates. If you can give $3000, all of that money will go directly to Ron Paul delegates. If you can give the maximum $5000, all of that money will go directly to Ron Paul delegates. And if you don't want to give directly to us, we'll put you in touch personally with one of these delegates, so you can give directly to her or him. However, because of privacy concerns, we ask that you be willing to donate a minimum of $500 if you're giving directly to a delegate. PLEASE HELP SEND RON PAUL DELEGATES TO THE REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION! https://secure.respon... For liberty, Bill Greene, Ch |

Ronvoys to Minneapolis
Ronvoys from across these United States will be converging upon Minneapolis for Ron Paul's Rally for the Republic and its associated events in September, just as they did for the Revolution March & Rally in July. Ronvoy riders will be able to rent inexpensive cabins at Camp Ihduhapi in Loretto. Y'all can read more here, if you like... http://rallytravelpac... Unlike last time, I don't see any Ronvoys passing through our region. But there will still be options for sharing rides with other Ron Paul revolutionaries. Lowell Nelson has been attempting to coordinate rally transportation for those from our part of Utah; please contact him if you'd like to connect with other rallygoers. Joseph Knapp will reportedly be driving a 47-passenger bus there and back. And others of us may carpool. |

Ronstock '08 Lodging
For those who would like to attend Ron Paul's events in Minneapolis but who find hotel costs daunting, please consider this following option. A Ron Paul revolutionary will let about 150 (estimated) fellow freedom lovers camp out without cost on his 60-acre organic dairy farm, which is located just 1 hour from downtown Minneapolis. His "Ronstock" campers will enjoy restrooms, an organic market selling veggies and meats and cheeses, speakers, music, and group transportation to the rally and back. Please visit Ronstock '08 for further information about this lodging option. |

Great American Walk for Freedom UPDATE
Dear Friends of Freedom: Words cannot describe the tremendous experience we are having on the Great American Walk for Freedom. After our first week of walking the Walk and talking the talk about Freedom and the Constitution, our beliefs have been confirmed that the model of sponsoring Town Hall Meetings on the Constitution is an incredibly powerful strategy for winning the hearts and minds of the people on the road forward to the restoration of Constitutional government. Our presentation, "The Case for Freedom: the Constitution is the Way Forward for America" has been very well received. The meetings after the presentation have been lively discussions about the real issues of the Rule of Law vs. the Rule of Men. Many are truly surprised and interested to learn about the Federal Reserve and the truth of our monetary system. The work we are doing is groundbreaking. After each Town Hall Meeting, we have been asked "how can we get a copy of this presentation?" to show to churches, veterans organizations, senior centers and high schools. We are meeting people in each town who really want to spread this message, if only they get some help and a little start. We really are Paul Reveres riding the countryside and "setting brushfires in the minds of men." Can we count on your support? Here's some things you can do: #1) CONTRIBUTE FUNDS... we are paying almost all expenses out of our own pockets now. #2) WALK THE WALK... visit our site and plan on hooking up with us to walk with us. #3) VOLUNTEER... we need help on site here in Wisconsin and there are many, many things that you can do via phone, fax and email to help us remotely as well. http://www.Walk4Freed... http://www.Walk4Freed... Watch these videos to get an idea of what we are doing. More videos highlighting the Town Hall Meetings will be forthcoming shortly. http://www.youtube.co... http://www.youtube.co... http://www.youtube.co... http://www.youtube.co... http://www.youtube.co... http://www.youtube.co... http://www.youtube.co... http://www.youtube.co... http://www.youtube.co... http://www.youtube.co... http://www.youtube.co... Fliers for National Delegates
Today, I delivered small packets of fliers to five homes of Republican national delegates (Bridgewater, Bramble, Lund, Henderson, and Lockhart) who live near me in Provo. I'd encourage y'all to do something similar with any national delegates who live near you. Please feel free to contact me for their addresses. If it helps anyone, here are the dozen two-sided fliers that I included in each of my five packets: * CFL Flier - LDS - Voters' Guide * CFL Flier - LDS - Preserving Our Divine Constitution * CFL Flier - LDS - Principles of Foreign Policy * CFL Flier - LDS - Statements on Freedom * Ron Paul 2008 Flier - LDS for Ron Paul * Ron Paul 2008 Brochure - Official * Ron Paul 2008 Flier - Official * Ron Paul 2008 Flier - Remarks on the Constitution * Ron Paul 2008 Flier - Statement of Faith * Ron Paul 2008 Flier - TST Foreign Policy * Ron Paul 2008 Flier - TST Health Care * Ron Paul 2008 Flier - Gun Rights (front side) * Ron Paul 2008 Flier - Gun Rights (back side) I delivered copies of these first four fliers to my liberal Republican state representative, Steve Clark, as well, who thinks that our Constitution is too antiquated for "modern" times. I doubt that he'll repent--but I at least "called him" to do so, which is all that I can do. ;) I'd like to start delivering these same fliers to likely voters around my precinct (and beyond) this fall, as well, if I can find enough time/money for it. In any case, between local spontaneous efforts like these and national coordinated efforts like DVDs for Delegates, perhaps there's a small chance that we can win over some of our national delegates before they vote (in less than two weeks). Even if we win any of them over, it would still take a miracle for them to even have an opportunity to vote for Ron Paul, at this point--but, of course, miracles are not up to us. We can only do our part and then hope for the best, come what may. Edited by David Edward Garber on Aug 23, 2008 5:46 PM |

Dave Garber's Tentative Schedule
Here's my own tentative travel agenda that I cobbled together today:
So, I should return in time for my second day of fall classes on Friday. I wish that I had more time and money to see more--there are few things that I enjoy more than travel. If anyone would like to carpool with me, then please let me know. My Toyota Corolla gets excellent gas mileage and, with people to split the bill with me, it would be even cheaper. Thanks! |

Nevada's National Delegation
Here's a report from Robert Terhune... Due to the fact that the Nevada State Republican Convention was shut down abruptly and illegally in April (when Party leaders weren't getting their way), and because the State Party leadership never intended to (and never did) complete the convention, we decided to finish it ourselves. We reconvened on June 28, and legally elected a full delegation to represent Nevada at the National Convention. The Party leadership of course never acknowledged the June 28th gathering, and submitted their own list of delegates, appointed by the leadership. Their list was comprised of party regulars and contributors. A Party official was heard boasting at a meeting that "not one of those Ron Paul people" were on the list. The party's list was submitted to the RNC, while we submitted an appeal to the RNC to try and stop them. The RNC's initial decision was to reject both delegations as illegal, and to seat only the three automatic delegates. The state party appealed that, and the matter was sent to the RNC's Contest Committee. The Contest Committee heard the appeal on Sunday, August 24, 2008. The Party was represented by high-powered Washington DC attorney Ben Ginsberg, and we were represented by Mike Weber, a long-time Republican activist (and McCain supporter) from Washoe County, Nevada. The hearing was set up like a Senate hearing, with the committee seated at a table at the front of the room, with the two parties facing them, seated at their own tables. Each side was allowed opening and closing statements, and in between the committee peppered both sides with questions. The committee was obviously very knowledgeable about the situation, and seemed very interested in getting to the truth and conducting a fair process. As the day wore on, it was apparent that the committee started to realize how poorly the state party had been conducting itself. In one instance, a committee member was trying to find out how people became state delegates. Between Sue Lowden (NV GOP Chair) and Ginsberg, the State party was unable to answer the question, to the frustration on the member. In another instance, another member was trying to learn if the party knew who the state delegates were. After receiving no firm answer to several questions, she exasperatedly asked, "You accepted money to register for the State Convention, right? So there must have been some bookkeeping of some kind!" She never got a satisfactory answer. Mike Weber closed with a stirring closing statement that basically told the committee that they could chose righteousness or corruption, and that the country was watching. No final decision was reached that day, and several smaller meetings between Weber and Party attorneys took place over the next few days. The outcome clearly was not going to be good. So here is where the process stands now: The Contest Committee released its report on Wednesday. The report strongly chastised the state GOP, calling the Nevada GOP’s handling of the delegate selection process "flawed, inadequate, and unacceptable," and added that they were "deeply troubled by the ineptness of the State Party in conducting its process to elect delegates." The National Party has confirmed that, in their opinion, BOTH delegations were selected illegally, and that they would not accept either. The only exceptions were the CD1 and CD3 delegates that were elected during the original convention in April-- they will seat them. Ron Paul is represented by four of those six delegates. However, there is a little-known rule that allows the National Party to appoint delegates to fill open slots within ten days of the National Convention. So, in order to fill all of the now-open seats from Nevada, they decided to invoke this rule and fill the vacancies. They did so using names from the State Party's appointed delegation. So, in summary, the Nevada state party did not like what was happening at the State Convention, so they took the ball and went home, cheating the delegates out of their vote. They tried to appoint delegates to the National Convention instead. We tried to stop them and ensure the voting rights of ordinary Nevada Republicans. The National Party sided with the State Party and, after slapping them on the wrist, accepted their appointed delegates. From now on, there is little to stop any state's GOP from ignoring the voices of it's people, and instead appointing their own cronies to attend the National Convention--where our next potential President is selected. |
