Yesterday, North Carolinan Republicans voted for their preferred Presidential candidate in a statewide primary election. At present, according to CNN, 99% of North Carolina's precincts have reported their results, which are...
#1 McCain (73%) #2 Huckabee (12%) #3 Paul (8%) Among North Carolina's counties, Dr. Paul received double-digit support in several. And he received his highest percentage (15%) of votes within Mecklenburg County, North Carolina's most populous county and home of its largest city, Charlotte. North Carolina's Republican Party gets to choose 69 (2.9%) of the 2,380 national delegates who will attend this year's Republican National Convention. Of these 69, 3 will be state Republican leaders and 66 will be chosen by conventions of either state or district delegates. All 69 will be bound in proportion to results from yesterday's Republican primary election. Based on these results, I'm estimating that, of North Carolina's 69 national delegates, 53 will be bound to McCain, 9 will be bound to Huckabee, 5 will be bound to Paul, and 2 will be bound to Keyes. If you're curious to read more about these matters, then you can study North Carolina's Republican Presidential nominating process here via The Green Pages and you can examine its primary election results here via CNN. |
