In preparation for the Real ID hearing in Scranton, PA on May 8th, we need to call state representatives to kindly make our displeasure known again (here's another writeup), request they co-sponsor HB 1351 (PA Real ID Non-Compliance Bill), and encourage them to attend the hearing.

To do so download this spreadsheet and call the PA representatives WITHOUT a 'Yes' in their column. If you so inclined, you can give the 'Yes' people a call and thank them for their co-sponsorship.

Here's a little script to follow if a secretary answers:

Hello, my name is _________ and I am calling from ________ County. Pennsylvania is holding their last hearing for REAL ID next Thursday and I urge you to cosponsor House Bill 1351 in order to reject the act.

Thank you.

Here's another script if you actually speak with the state rep (modify as you deem necessary):
Hello, my name is _________ and I am calling from ________ County. I oppose PA's compliance with the unconstitutional Real ID Act. Pennsylvania is holding their last Real ID hearing in Scranton next Thursday, May 8th. I urge you to attend the meeting to learn more about the Real ID Act and its opposition. Subsequently, I request that you co-sponsor House Bill 1351 to reject compliance with the Real ID Act.

Thank you.

If you can't attend the hearing, make the calls!

Some organizers in Lancaster have the following agenda laid out:

1. May 2nd, make phone calls.
2. May 7th, meet at the capital. Knock on doors of all Representatives that haven't co-sponsored and ask them to co-sponsor and show at the meeting. Knock on all doors of co-sponsors and ask them to show up at the meeting.
3. May 8th, attend the Scranton Real ID hearing.

I am awaiting details for the meeting in Harrisburg. If you are interested in going to Harrisburg on May 7th, let me know.

are we organizing a carpool?

Since only a handful of people have RSVP'd yes for the actual road trip, carpool arrangements should be made amongst themselves.

A hearing in Erie was supposed to be the last. Has it been cancelled altogether, and if so, does anyone know why?

It's not listed on the calendar for house committee meetings. Not sure why...

Thanks, Robert. Maybe they don't want to hear any more angry opposition than they "have to". I think I'll email an inquiry though.

Here's a summary of from Jim Compton (RTR Pennsylvania State Coordinator) about today's activities in D.C.

Good evening, Volunteers,

We had a super day at the Capitol. Ten volunteers from Lancaster County showed up at 10:00 and by 2:30 in the afternoon, we had passed out an article by Attorney Linda Sargent titled "A Second Opinion, Is the Real ID Act Unconstitutional?" She did an excellent review in the article and the "right to be left alone, the right to bear arms, the right of religious freedom, and the right to assemble and come and go as Americans are accustomed to doing" were covered.

We passed out the article to all the members of the Intergovernmental Affairs Committee and the Representatives and Senators who have not yet sign on as co-sponsors to their respective bills rejecting Real ID.

And guess what? Three more Representatives signed on as co-sponsors today!. They include representatives Ken Smith, Chris King, and Thomas Quigley. Three others indicated that they might also co-sponsor. New faces in the Capitol equal more co-sponsors. In additional, we got lots of feedback that the calls about Real ID are coming into the Capitol.

All I can say thanks and is keep up the great work. We are making progress.

Tomorrow will be an important day in Scranton. The meeting starts at 10:00 in the Collegiate Room of Redington Hall at the University of Scranton. Address is 1120 Linden Street, Scranton, PA. Let's have a great showing. If you have a video camera, please bring it along. Adam in Pittsburgh is a great video editor. Sorry Adam, had to give you a plug.

If you missed Adam's Scranton Real ID Video, here's the link: http://video.google.c...

Take care; get a good night's sleep and hope to see you in Scranton tomorrow morning.
