What: Current reports indicate that Senator Max Baucus’s Senate Finance Committee is preparing to vote on their version of President Obama’s health control scheme today. One component of Baucus’s plan is the mandate that will force most Americans to either have government-approved coverage or to pay a tax penalty enforced by the IRS.
If we take action now, we may be able to stop the Baucus bill from ever reaching the Senate floor. This is a key vote for the administration and a perfect time for us to turn up the heat on Congress.
Who: Senate Finance Committee members.
Action: Contact them via they're individual website contact forms provided here. (Click each name on the list) and call them via the Committee’s main office number (202) 224-4515. Tell them to stand up for the American people by opposing this latest power grab. We agree that the status quo has to change, but government intervention in the health care market created this problem. More intervention is guaranteed to only make it much worse.
**NOTE: This meetup begins at 8:00AM and runs throughout the day, but please try to take action as early in the day as possible**
Thanks!
The following is the letter I'm sending to each senator. You can use it as is or edit it to send yourself.
Dear Senator ___________,
A component of Sen. Baucus’s health care plan is the mandate that will FORCE most Americans to either have government-approved coverage or TO PAY A TAX PENALTY enforced by the IRS. This is patently unjust!
This is just one of many power grabs that Mr. Obama'a administartion is attempting and must be stopped! Government intervention in the health care market created the problem that this ill-advised plan is attempting to solve. More such intervention with more expensive government bureaucracy is guaranteed to only make the problem much worse and place a further debt repayment burden on hard working Americans who are already over-taxed.
I strongly urge you to stand up for the American people by opposing this legislation and instead crafting and introducing a free market health care reform solution like Rep. Ron Paul's HR 1495: Comprehensive Health Care Reform Act: http://www.govtrack.u...
Thank you for your attention!
(When I contacted Sen. Baucus I wrote in the first line "A component of your plan" and in the last line I strongly encouraged him to abandon his plan rather than oppose the legislation.)
