What: While progress of the health care reform bill has been stalled in the House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee primarily by the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Democrats over projected costs, negotiations between Democrats and Republicans continue in the influential Senate Committee on Finance on a compromise measure that would be the first bipartisan bill. Senator Orrin Hatch (UT), a leading Republican on the committee, walked out of and quit these private talks this past Wednesday the 22nd saying the one trillion dollar price tag is too high and that he opposes a number of methods under consideration to pay for the package. Tea Party Patriots requests that we turn up the heat on the rest of this committee.

When: All Day Monday July 27th.

Action: We need everyone to call every member of the Senate Finance Committee and tell them that our economy cannot afford another massive government spending bill. You might also consider calling Sen. Hatch's office to thank and commend him for lodging such a strong protest against the direction that the talks were taking.

Sample Phone Script: I'm calling to strongly urge Senator __________ in his/her capacity as a Finance Committee member to vote against any government-run health care bill. Our economy cannot afford another massive government spending bill. A recent Congressional Budget Office analysis found that the leading health plans proposed by the Democrats will increase the national debt and not provide the savings President Obama has promised.

When calling Sen. Baucus's office I used "as the Finance Committee's Chairman" instead of "a member", and for Sen. Grassley I used "as the ranking member of".

Please call as many members as you can starting with the Democrats. Split the list between Monday and Tuesday if you need too. Every call helps and every call counts!!
