On June 11th, HR 1207: Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009 reached a crucial benchmark when Ohio Democratic Congressman Dennis Kucinich became HR 1207's 218th cosponsor, thus obtaining a majority of Representatives as supporters of this bill to audit the Federal Reserve for the first time in its almost 100 year history. A press release on that day from Rep. Ron Paul's office stated that, as a result, hearings on Federal Reserve transparency were expected within the next month. HR 1207 currently has an incredible 244 cosponsors. This means that our phone calls, emails, letters & faxes to, and visits with, our Congresspeople and House Financial Services Committee members definitely made a strong impact. Congratulate yourselves on a job very well done!!
What: S 604: Federal Reserve Sunshine Act of 2009 introduced by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is HR 1207's companion bill in the U.S. Senate. It's wording is identical to HR 1207's, and it is currently cosponsored by Sen. Jim Demint (R-SC), Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) and Sen. Michael Crapo (R-ID).
We need everyone's help to get this bill passed too, and one of the first steps, like with HR 1207, is to get as many Senators as possible to cosponsor it.
When: All day Monday, July 6th End The Fed! will follow the nationwide July 4th Tea Parties with an "Audit the Fed! Melt the Senate Switchboard Day".
Actions:
FIRST: We and everyone we know nationwide need to call our U.S. Senators' Washington, D.C. offices AND their local offices and strongly urge them to sign on as cosponsors of S 604. Pennsylvanians call:
Sen. Arlen Traitor, uh, I mean Specter

A phone script you can use when calling:
Hi, I'm calling from (your city), to strongly urge Senator__________ to sign on as a cosponsor of S 604: Federal Reserve Sunshine Act of 2009. It's high time the Federal Reserve is audited. Thank you.
SECOND: If you have the time, call the Washington offices of those Senators who are already cosponsoring S 604 to THANK and COMMEND them for doing so. It doesn't matter that they don't represent our state. They appreciate positive feedback from anyone, and it can encourage them to continue to support the bill as it makes its way through the legislative process.
