Being Prepared

Hello Everyone,

First, I would like to announce the victory of our trivia team at Dos Primos on Tuesday night. As winners we were able to make "Ron Paul" one of the categories for next week, so all of the other teams are going to have to read up on Dr. Paul and see the light if they want a fighting chance next week. We also won all of the entry money, $50, which has gone into our meetup campaign fund. Speaking of funding I have put up on our homepage a place where you can click to donate to the group via Paypal. Some of the Meetup members and I have been seeking out possible outlets for local advertisements and their costs. We will very soon have to decide as a group where the best place to invest our money will be.

Down to business. Tomorrow is our first canvassing day. We will be meeting at 2:30 at the OLD hospital at about 600 E Grady St. If you can't make it tomorrow we will be meeting at the same place and time on Sunday too. If you get lost call me at 478-494-1648. Bring clipboards if you have them and dress conservatively (i.e. no "I Hate Bush" shirts). The weather says it will probably rain and be cold on Saturday and be sunny on Sunday. So bring rain gear for Saturday and remember, more people will be at home if it's rainy making for ideal canvassing weather :)!! Bring a big smile and eat a tub of ice cream today because you can walk it off tomorrow! Canvassing is going to be the bread and butter of this campaign. No other candidate has the manpower or organization to pull this off (Recall the meetup comparison sheets I passed out at the last meeting). In Michigan, although statewide he polled 6%, here are some precincts with registered Ron Paul precinct leaders:

#74 - 12%
#69 - 11%
#71 - 11%
#2 - 13%
#4 - 13%

Canvassing doubled voter turnout. If it wasn't obvious last year it sure has become obvious now that the airwaves have pick the candidate they do NOT want to win. Even though Paul is ahead of Thompson and Giuliani they are mentioned 20:1 to Dr. Paul (if that) in the mainstream media. We are going to win this fight one precinct at a time. Low percentage numbers in early primary states do not discourage me one bit. When I was a freshman in college I took Calculus I with Dr. Lila Robert, the most vehemently feared professor in all of the Math department. On the first test I earned... I believe it was a 37. After receiving the grade I fell into the deepest hammock of self pity for probably about 3 hours. I remember I was walking up the steps the library and I realized that feeling sorry for myself was rather counter productive and that I had two choices: 1) Drop the class and admit failure and move on/feel sorry for myself. 2) Suck it up and redouble my efforts. Walking up the steps that day I chose door number 2. I spent every day in the tutoring center in the basement of the old library. I ate, drank and breathed calculus. In the end I guess everyone else failed that first test too as only 8 people remained in the class after the drop date. The final grade distribution of those 8 were 4 F's, 2 D's and 2 B's. The best B I ever earned and one of the proudest moments of my life. My apologies for the soliloquy but I believe that this cause is not for the faint of heart or meddle. We are fighting an uphill fight against 70 years of established ideology. A fight to restore a republic which was earned by extreme hardship and suffering. Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence? Five signers were captured by the British as traitors and tortured before they died. Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned. Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army, another had two sons captured. Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War. They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor.

So here we are canvassing tomorrow and Sunday. In August Ron Paul was polling 1%. Now we are at 7% nationally, in fourth place, with 1% of the American People weighing in. All of this with virtually zero media support. Even though the pundits don't mention Ron Paul what they do say is that there is no favorite in this Republican field. Mostly because the candidates they are touting unequivocally suck. The metaphorical stage is set for us. This fight is far from over! I will print a bunch of these and bring them to the canvassing but it would probably be a good idea to get a head start now as you don't want an information overload tomorrow or Sunday.
